Updating Google Chrome to Ensure System Works Properly

Overview

Sometimes, a page might not load correctly or may look a bit off. Usually, the problem isn’t the system, it’s your browser.

The good news is that this is easy to fix! By making sure Google Chrome is up-to-date and refreshing cached files, most issues can be solved in just a few simple steps.

Don’t worry—this guide will walk you through everything step by step.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Make Sure Google Chrome Is Up to Date

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click the three dots in the top-right corner.
  3. Go to Help → About Google Chrome.

  1. Chrome will check for updates automatically.
  2. If there’s an update available, click Update.

  1. Once the update finishes, click Relaunch to restart Chrome.

Keeping Chrome updated helps pages load properly and prevents issues in the future.

Step 2: Clear Cached Images and Files

  1. Open the three dots menu again.
  2. Go to Settings → Privacy and security → Delete browsing data.

  1. Select Cached images and files only (you don’t need to delete your browsing history).

  1. Click Delete data.

This refreshes stored files that might be causing problems, so your page can load fresh and correctly.

Step 3: Refresh the Page

  1. Go back to the page you were using.
  2. Click Refresh / Reload.
  3. The page should now load properly.

Quick tip: Some systems let you do a hard refresh with keyboard shortcuts:

  • Windows: Ctrl + Shift + R
  • Mac: Command + Shift + R

Quick Hard Refresh (Optional)

If the page still doesn’t look right, a hard refresh forces your browser to reload everything. Here’s how:

Windows / Linux:

  • Ctrl + click the Reload button
  • Ctrl + F5
  • Ctrl + Shift + R

Mac:

  • Shift + click the Reload button
  • ⌘ Cmd + Shift + R

Using Chrome Dev Tools:

  1. Press F12 to open Dev Tools.
  2. Right-click the Reload button.
  3. Select Hard refresh or Clear cache and hard refresh.

Mozilla Firefox:

  • Windows/Linux: Ctrl + F5 or Ctrl + Shift + R
  • Mac: Shift + Reload button or Cmd + Shift + R

Internet Explorer:

  • Ctrl + F5
  • Ctrl + Click Refresh button

Hard refresh makes sure your browser loads the latest version of the page and all files.

If a page isn’t working properly, it may be your browser that's at fault. To fix it:

  1. Make sure Google Chrome is up to date
